But, in addition to it being ND’s most ambitious game, it’ll also be its most accessible game they’ve ever created. While speaking about The Last of Us Part II, Naughty Dog’s lead gameplay designer, Emilia Schatz, talked about the game’s various accessibility options, with the most obvious one being all of its difficulty settings, ranging from the lightest setting, where players can easily progress through the story, all the way up to the hardest: Hardcore Survivor. In addition to the various difficulty settings, The Last of Us Part II will have sports game-like sliders that’ll allow players to adjust things like how much damage Ellie can take from enemies and how alert the game’s AI will be. Also, players can adjust the size of the game’s subtitles and enable color-blind filters. Visually impaired users will have the option to navigate the game via sound, as Naughty Dog has added a wide range of audio triggers that’ll guide players around the map and allow them to survey their surroundings, discover new items, and eliminate enemies. Additionally, there will be a high-contrast mode for partially blind players, where everything in the game will be color-coded. For example, the high-contrast mode will make the world geometrically grey, while allies will be blue, and enemies will be red. The data is then offered to the user in four formats, ArcGrid, BIL, TIFF and Grid Float. The next attempt by the USGS took the existing SDTS data and reformatted it into a data structure that allowed the data to be selected by rubber-band box from a map GUI such that DEMs of any arbitrary size could be supplied to the user. This data is available from three commercial (but free) sources at: From a technical standpoint, the NED is probably superior. Many applications can read SDTS format, so using this data is generally no problem. The entire 1:24000 (7.5') 15m and 30m United States DEM data set is available in this format. However, there is nothing wrong with the data once you get at it. The failure was so total that the USGS did not even complete the conversion of its data to the new format before they gave up and adopted the new NED formats. Writing an SDTS writer is virtually impossible and I do not know anyone who has done it. Writing an SDTS file reader is a significant pain as a result. SDTS DEM data format was the USGS attempt at creating a new file format specification. Only the 1:250,000 scale DEMs are still offered by the USGS in this format, available at: However, at this point the USGS has converted most of its data to different formats (see below). It is the de facto plain-vanilla standard for data transfer between different applications. More importantly, it was the original DEM format and had been around so long that many applications could (and still can) handle it. However, it is a fixed ASCII format, which makes it easier to handle from this aspect. The Vectorworks product line offers professional design solutions for architecture, interior construction, the entertainment industry, landscaping. In our next webinar we’ll be going into more detail of a site modelling workflow – looking at how to use the model both for analysis and for final output. By using 3D polys, you can tweak any planar modifiers to reflect these differences. However it can and does do 3D, and its 3d modelling abilities have improved, but honestly its an application the basis. ![]() A quick example if you’re working on a plaza with existing building around it, you’ll have different threshold levels to take into consideration for the different buildings – your model would then need to reflect this. If you get to grips with the concepts of these, you’ll get the freedom to model as ‘real life’ instead of with an idealised ‘would be nice’ approach. We have a few tools – the grade tool and the site modifier tool – dedicated to site modelling, but the most powerful and versatile ways of modelling come from understanding some more general objects. The difference between these then gives you an accurate calculation of the cut & fill of the project. One of the advantages with this is that you’re actually having two models – one for the existing site and one for the proposed. In Vectorworks, the site model is created as a TIN model. You can create a shade analysis, get an overview of the water runoff, create a slope analysis, and even analyse different geological horizons of the site, if you’ve added this to the model. ![]() To be free from the restrictions of working only with planar objects and instead approach the surface as an organic, freely malleable object is exciting and liberating.Įven if you’re not actively working in 3D, a site model can be incredibly useful.Ĭreate one at the beginning of stage 1 and use solely it to extract more information than you get from a top plan. ![]() I’m sure, though, that if you’ve already started using a DTM (Digital Terrain Model) in your workflow, you can see the benefits.
